Logo-ColorThe Oceania Section of the Society for Conservation Biology are currently looking for nominations for new board members – 3 Members-at-large and 1 President Elect. I’ve been on the board for a year (and will be for 2 more) and it’s been great. Serving on the board is a good way to get more involved with the workings of a professional society (looks great on your CV!) and with SCBO, to make sure that conservation science, scientists, and practitioners doing great things in our region are well represented on the global SCB stage. The current board members are a wonderful and enthusiastic group. We have working group committees on conservation science, policy, education and management, and we organise fantastic regional conferences every two years. I attended several conferences this year, and the SCBO conference in Suva was definitely my favourite – great venue, fun fieldtrips and cool science from up and coming Pacific Islands students, alongside established scientists from the region.

If you think you could volunteer a bit of your time to keep making SCBO better, why not throw your name in the ring? The deadline for nominations is Friday, 19 December 2014.

You can view the full call for nominations here. If you know of someone who would be a good candidate for one of these positions and who would be willing to travel to a least one BOD meeting per year (self-nominations are welcome) please send the form by e-mail before 19 December 2014 to: Emily Weiser, Nominations Officer. Please indicate ‘SCB Oceania elections’, and be sure to state which position the nomination is for.
